Meet Jeremiah

As a kid growing up in and around Buffalo, NY, Jeremiah’s dad worked as a roofer and his mom as a nurse’s aide. His family moved around a lot as his parents changed jobs, always striving to make a better life. Jeremiah became the first person in his family to earn a college degree, and this set him on a path that would lead him to Central New York in 2003, where he’s lived ever since. He came to the area to work and study at Syracuse University, and he chose to put down roots here, meeting and marrying his wife, Sarah, a life-long Syracuse resident.

Jeremiah developed an interest in politics in high school and began volunteering on local and national campaigns as an undergrad at SUNY Geneseo. He currently serves on the Zoning Board in the Village of Liverpool and teaches a writing course with a focus on Civic Discourse & Ethics at SU. He urges his students to resist cynicism on current events and step into the public sphere to advocate for the common good. When the opportunity to run for County Legislature presented itself, Jeremiah, always one to lead by example, knew he could do no less than what he asks of them.

While he loves his work at SU, Jeremiah knows the challenge of making ends meet in today’s economy, and he often works various side jobs ranging from custodial to retail to acting in order to supplement his income. He and his wife know first-hand the obstacles to home ownership. These experiences make him keenly aware of the struggles that a lot of CNY families face, and he believes that the County Legislature has a role to play in making life a little easier. With a focus on transportation, affordable housing, support for small businesses, and adult education and workforce development, Jeremiah wants to ensure that Onondaga County is a place where families can thrive.

In his free time, Jeremiah enjoys performing in local theater, hiking in many of the great parks Central New York has to offer, participating in game nights with friends, and spending time with his wife in the Village of Liverpool, where they have lived for nearly a decade.
